LOCATION Houston, Texas COMPENSATION $34-$38 per hour CONTRACT LENGTH 1 year contract with likelihood of extension POSITION OVERVIEW - Legal Assistant Role Description:
The position requires a legal assistant who is knowledgeable about litigation casework who is self-motivated, works independently as well as with teams and has demonstrated the ability to multi-task and use independent judgment within the scope of their responsibilities.
The individual should be able to handle confidential information and establish a positive and professional working relationship with team members, clients and other staff members discreetly and routinely.
It will be helpful for the successful candidate to have some experience working on large dockets or chronic exposure matters in addition to general litigation.
This position requires a high level of initiative, accuracy and attention to detail.
This position also requires a positive, can-do attitude, strong interpersonal skills, excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to multitask and manage a high volume of work.
Oil, Products & Gas (OPG) Law has a team of Legal Assistants who provide administrative support to attorneys and other law professionals in the Downstream, Chemicals and Midstream (DCM) Litigation Law team.
This position reports to the Supervisor, Legal Assistants, OPG Law Legal Operations & Services, Litigation.
Responsibilities:
Draft, format and revise legal documents under strict deadlines.
Use Microsoft Word track-change function and Workshare Professional to edit and revise documents.
Assist the lawyers in preparing correspondence, presentations, and routine reports.
Coordinate logistics, agendas and presentation materials for meetings, conferences and special functions.
Work closely with Chevron business partners, Chevron attorneys, Legal Analysts, eDiscovery Project Managers, and Outside Counsel, in a variety of issues relating to litigation support.
Coordinate and track international and domestic travel logistics, including details needed for visas, immunizations, photos, passport renewals, detailed itineraries, etc.
Track and gather related expenses and compile complicated expense reports in expense reporting system (CTREX).
Create and update legal matters in internal matter management system (Team Connect).
Process e-billings, invoices and payments within and outside the legal software system, Team Connect and set up vendors in Team Connect.
Work in iManage to upload, review and research documents.
Follow through to ensure deadlines are met and proactively follow up with individuals as needed.
Research inquiries and relieve leaders of administrative tasks.
Assist with other duties and special projects, as assigned by Supervising/Managing Counsel and other team members as needed.
Assist and provide backup coverage to other legal assistants.
Position instructions and comments onto drawings.
Check dimensions of materials to be used and assign numbers to the materials.
Lay out and draw schematic, orthographic, or angle views to depict functional relationships of components, assemblies, systems, and equipment Required Skills/
Experience:
Minimum of five years of legal administrative experience working in a legal department or law firm.
Proficiency in SharePoint and the Microsoft Office suite of tools (i.
e.
, Word, Outlook, Forms, PowerPoint, Teams and Excel) and the ability to quickly learn new tools.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Strong word processing and proofreading skills to assure accuracy and coherency.
Intermediate computer technical skills.
Demonstrated high level of initiative, independence and the ability to anticipate needs and requirements.
Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate at all levels.
Must possess the ability to maintain the upmost confidentiality and adapt to changing needs and deadlines.

Associate degree.
Proficiency in DocuSign, Team Connect and iManage.
Experience with e-billing, matter management systems and setting up vendors in payment system.
Notary Public.
Experience in and/or working relationship with the Chevron Law Function.
Fluency with FCC Format and Style Guidelines.
